Why Every Team Needs All-rounders & Multi-dimensional Members Like Han Jisung of Stray Kids
& what can be learned from SKZ Han Jisung; acting on momentum; Twitter’s Revue; 3RACHA & SKZ Noeasy; Nevertheless’ Ending; Seungri
I read somewhere that:
“An information saved, is an information lost.”
Acting on it is the difference.
One piece of information lost is what I actually wanted to say about Han Jisung in last issue. ‘Having eyes and ears for talent’ was my initial thought. But after writing that, I got a sudden realization of what would be better instead to describe Han head bobbing clip about: “him enjoying the moment listening to Hwa Sa”— ties into the ‘in the present’ theme of the last issue.
I jotted the latter in my notes, instead directly on the drafted article.
Foolish mistake.
The next morning, as I went through the final read, I’ve already forgotten about my notes. Information lost.
This brings me to the topic I want to talk about today. Also regarding our favorite Malaysian-celup boy1 Han Jisung.
This particular information, I found out also last week. But at that time, my knowledge felt only brewing. Not brewed enough to appear here. So before I’ll forget about this and store different data (rather, obsess with something different) in my brain.
Let’s look at why…
Every team in all organizations needs an all-rounder (or as the Koreans like to say, ace) like Han Jisung.
Main rapper, Producer, Main vocalist, with immense skill in dancing, and cracking jokes, there's nothing that Han Jisung can't do.
His capabilities caught my attention, after diving deeper into 3RACHA2's mixtapes and videos. Before he debuted in Stray Kids, he was heavily active in making unofficial music for 3RACHA together with Bang Chan and Changbin.
What caught my attention:
His aggressive rap flow in Carpe Diem; his cool angry diss-track in I Got It; his smooth dance in 3RACHA's We Go; and his witty cover of Zion T's Yanghwa BRDG. What can’t this man do?
According to Bang Chan, who had full autonomy choosing Stray Kids’ members, during an interview with JYP himself,
Han Jisung is the "all-round cheat key".
—the reason why Han Jisung was chosen to be a part of Stray Kids.
And true enough, Bang Chan's wisdom to include an all-rounder in SKZ3 paid off because life is not as smooth sailing (to the team) as we wished and planned it to be.
It’s good to have all-rounders in a team, because:
Their multi-facet abilities make a good balance of the team, a key to the team's success.
a) Han’s high note in BTOB's I'll Be Your Man cover was something he pulled off easily. It matches the skill of a main vocalist that TVXQ’s Changmin even thought Han was the main vocalist.
Indistinguishable from what he is usually known for, the main rapper.
Han is known for his rapping abilities. But aside from that, he's someone that's extremely talented as a vocalist as well. In the beginning we were worried, would it be okay if Han sang here? But he always exceeds expectations
—Mary.hotsauce, producer for Back Door, said in an interview.
b) His lyrical sense, dance abilities, and facial expressions on stage make SKZ performances much more enjoyable. You do not know what you're gonna get, and you'll be surprised because they have side tricks up their sleeves.
⏯ The solemn, relatable lyrics he wrote in 19, which also represented his last year as a teen.
⏭ Blueprint is a beautiful song where Jisung went back and forth from vocal to rap, like easy peasy.
Mishaps occur, all the time, and at the least of time we expect them to be. In the case of accidents, or grave incidents, all-rounders stepping in would minimize, or best yet, cover the mistakes into a perfect outcome.
Real-life scenarios:
a) Hyunjin's microphone incident in God's Menu & Back Door performance for Asia's Artist Awards 2020.
Hyunjin's mic suddenly went off sometime throughout the performance. And guess who stepped in to cover his part because ~the show must go on~? Han Jisung, and Changbin both! Especially awards, not a single mistake can be done!
b) Han Jisung took over most of former Main Vocalist, Woojin's lines after his departure in 2019.
To suddenly lose a key player who held an important position like 'main vocalist' will put huge stress on the team, especially at the beginning of their career!
After listening to SKZ’s pre-2019 albums, I noticed Woojin has this unique vocal color that you can definitely tell it's his voice. So can you imagine suddenly that voice was missing from the songs? But luckily for SKZ, Han Jisung and the rest of the members, followed by Seungmin helped with line redistribution. But most of the part, Han took over Woojin's vocal lines.
This setback also became a blessing in disguise to polish Han’s vocal abilities.
Having a set number of desirable 'staff' or 'team' rarely exist in real life. What's realistic though, are...
a) Multi-dimensional team player.
We get bored. Sometimes, I get bored of writing about K-pop, or K-drama. So on times like these, I want to switch up my brain with writing in-depth about daily observations, like last week's issue, and alternate it with K-thing on the next one so my mind is more "fresh".
b) A crucial position in a company or a team can be left unattended for a long time because a person worthy of that position hasn't been found yet.
While waiting for the suitable candidate, the remaining team players must step in to do what they can, doing other tasks to fill in the loopholes so that in-between operations are smooth. That's why the term 'acting CEO' exists. Because someone who's near-qualified needs to steer the ship to keep momentum.
To tie it all together, life is all about plan B, C, D, E…
Planning is good. But sometimes, plan A does not work. Talented staff leaves. That's why backups like Han Jisung’s side talents are crucial. He is really, the plan B, C, D and cheat key of the team.
Of course, not everyone has the privilege to be an all-rounder.
All-rounders may weigh a heavier responsibility than others, and it can suck being put tremendous amount of burden compared to your peers. But surely there are lessons that can be learned. Perhaps a new sense of liking towards the different side of the responsibility, one they can hone to one day & morph into fully, once they decide, ok it's time to attend to a different side of myself. Somewhere in the future, those multi-abilities you've honed will help you in the different segments of your life.
Like his vocals and high-note in #NOEASY comeback’s Gone Away. No rap at all & Han did not disappoint!
And besides that…
Our best works of art are those done on momentum, when inspiration strikes. An inspiration saved is an inspiration lost. An inspiration acted on, is… the real deal!
Here’s a challenge for you out there, check out your drafts, and post that information you’ve saved for so long!

Current obsessions
Seungmin's 'fun-first attitude' to games. He won the friendship game because he makes it fun first.
Speaking of fun, distilling from ‘What Leaders Can Learn From Stray Kids' Victory in Kingdom: Legendary War and GOT7's Departure’, I think now I get it, really.
💭 Why fun is an important quality to have in order to succeed? Because it's hard to compete with those who truly enjoy what they're doing!
SKZ NOEASY comeback
EVERYTHING about it! No words. Just Stray Kids World Domination.
Expanding on 3RACHA…

This interesting piece on The CEO of No.
Spot on!
Seungri’s sentenced to 3 years in prison, just a few days before Big Bang’s 15th anniversary. Wow. Rome wasn’t built in one day but it can be shattered in one day.
Your responses on time urgency. ⏰Looks like I’m not the only one who has more than 2 traits. If you missed the issue on slowing down, you can read it back here.

Felt like I wasted time watching the ending because not only did I already lost interest, but the show went from showing reality 📈 to going downhill 📉with romanticizing toxic relationships. But one thing I agreed with was that Do-hyeok deserved better than Na-bi.
Also, they didn't even delve in-depth into what else happened between Jae-Eon and Seol-a?
Kingdom Week
I love the rest. But I hate:
Chan’s mission. Crossing the privacy realm that best friends do not even do. 🎥 Film folks take note of this sensitivity!
No proper broadcasting channel to watch this. What a blunder.

This cat’s visit taught me that it takes months for someone to gain your trust. They need to lurk around you for a whileeeeee, only then they'll feel safe to approach you.
