Hi Friends of The Far Insights,
I am typing this as the train is heading east from Bandung to Yogyakarta…
Being in Indonesia has opened my eyes a lot. P/s: I’m in Indonesia!
Being outside of my bubble has made me realize how my problems are not the end of the world.
Some of the people here have it harder in life. The survival mode is strong.
I am not bashing any countries, or discriminating any societal groups. But this made me realized of how what I thought was a “problem”, at this part of the world, is considered a luxury.
It humbled me.
It gave me sudden jolt that I have a lot to be grateful for.
Yes, travel is a privilege. But what do you do with it? And being given the opportunity to do so, makes me realize there’s too many things I should be grateful for.
At a time I forgot to be grateful, again 😞
Gratitude rewires your brain. Sounds easy but it’s not as simple as that. Maintaining is the goal. Not a one time thing.
And travel helps me see the world as it is. Not see it through a pair of rosy-colored lens. Being stuck at home, for such a long time can sometimes make me unrealistic. I needed the culture shock of the world to wake me up.
Seeing something as it is, is important. Because that helps us avoid disappointments, and unnecessary expectations our mind planted earlier on.
And maybe you need that to.
Here’s my permission to get out of that bubble. Even if it’s just for a little bit.
Here are photos of Banjar Town!
& to the people who have made my days in Indonesia, you people are gems and highlights of this trip.
Quoting an Indian lady I met on the plane,
“You’re allowed to be foolish when you’re young. But as you get older, you don’t get that legroom,”
So here’s to being foolish, as I am still allowed to do so, within the permissible bounds.
